SSD on a budget

Hey, everyone. Sorry to say, after searching for a while, I really couldn't find much of a thread about SSDs that fit people with a lower budget, i.e. first time buyers of one that want to see just what all the SSD fuss is about. What would be the best bet for a cheap, yet still reliable SSD for such a user, preferably around 120 gigs? Newegg's got Vertex 2s running on sale with a rebate, but the comments I've read about them make me a smidge wary of getting anywhere near them. Still, 120 gig for $180 (post-rebate) seems to be the best bet. Are there any other contenders around this capacity/price point? Are the Vertex 2s really that bad? Oh, and I'm not really concerned with a 6gbps SATA connection, my motherboard doesn't have any of those ports anyway and I doubt I could ever make use of it with my normal workload (gaming).

Hit up ebay, you can get quality SSD'd like Intel 320's for under $200. Gamble with OCZ drives you have a good chance of getting bitten.

So OCZ is out. I also don't hear all that much that's positive about Corsair SSDs on Newegg (and I don't think I heard much positive here, either). Any other ones worth looking at besides the newest Intel ones? Kingston's still looking good for budget work...

I have had 4 sets of SSDs all without issues (all in raid0).

Intel 80 gb X25M's
Intel 40 gb X25V's
OCZ 60 gb Vertex 2's
Kingston 96 gb V+100's

Had the first three sets for over a year (Intel 80's for a year and a half) - Kingstons for just a month.

You will be impressed with whatever drive you get.

Not as large as you want, but Amazon has the Intel 320 80 gb brown box for $155 right now. Not a bad price...http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Or this 128 gb M4 at SuperBiiz - $200 after discount code (SUMMERTIMESSD) - free ground shipping....https://www.superbiiz.com/detail.ph...M4-2-5-inch-128GB-SATA3-Solid-State-Drive-MLC (just ordered one of these myself)

Samsung 470 is worth looking at.

Samsung 470 and Kingston SSDNow V+100 both available on eBay for pretty good prices. The Intel 320 isn't, really, unless I feel like having it shipped from Serbia. Between those two, which would be more highly recommended? I'm leaning towards the 470.

Believe me there are are a lot of people around here that are more knowledgable than I am about SSD's, I just use them.

That disclamer being put forward, all things pricewise being equal I would get the Samsung. It is supposed to be a really well balanced drive.

There is an Intel 320 for $199, free shipping on ebay. Just search for Intel 320 120gb ssd, then sort by lowest. Not sure where its shipped from, but for me it would arrive in 5-6 days, so must be in the U.S.

samsung is supplying ssd's to several net/note oems as unlabled internal components & using in several samsung label home entertainment products

component sales small part of samsung global marketing program - regional marketing is limited

if you can't find usa, check uk resellers or ebay

i would compare samsung w/ adata having marvell controller, but samsung will intro faster model approx october this yr

Yeah, but there's a Samsung 470 128gb for $145, free shipping, buy it now. Is the Intel worth 55 more dollars?

if you're in orange county that could be on fedex from shenzen. refurb ipod shipped from there in less than a week to houston.

i got 160gb (hp pull 3hrs use) for $190 shipped off amazon. works awesome! i'd rather take a risk on used than give up more than 40gb. 120gb is tight - 160gb feels good. i've rocked X25-V (37gb formatted) and it was real tight but for XP it was awesome. the intel's just rock - i saw a few hp 160gb pulls sell for $170 recent. that's hot for low hour models (G2 no less)
