I have M4 64GB running on ASUS P8Z68-V LE, last night I updated the bios through OS using ASUS utility, system booted a few times (to the bios, never really went into the OS or anything) and then it wont recognize the SSD, I went into the bios and it showed that there was no drive in that port. I rolled back and still no luck.

I did not try the SSD on another computer or another port yet, but was wondering did anyone have this kind of experience? is there a know issue of SSDs or port getting fried during bios update?

Moral of the story: If it ain't broke, don't fix it

try another port and in the meantime submit the question to asus support as that will help the RMA ball rolling.

Also check to make sure you are still AHCI mode (assuming that's where you were before.)

Try moving the drive to another port. Also, unplug and replug both ends of the cable or use a different cable.

Well... bottom line, its working, but with a workaround

The drive/port configuration was -
Port1 - SATA III - SSD
Port2 - SATA III - HDD Caviar Black 500GB
Port3 - SATA II - HDD Samsung 1TB
Port4 - SATA II - HDD WD Green 1TB
Port5 - eSATA port
Port6 - not used

Here's step by step of what I did.
1. Started the comp, same problem, shut it down
2. Disconnected and reconnected SSD started comp, everything worked perfectly fine, logged into windows and everything...
3. Shut down the comp, closed the case, started it, detected SSD, started loading windows but system froze at the windows logo.
4. Rebooted system and same result.
5. Put the SSD in a external dock of a different computer, I was able to read it flawlessly.
6. Put it back on the same Port1, system recognized the SSD but this time got an error - "A drive error has occured..."
7. Connected the SSD to Port6 of the mobo and restarted computer, everything worked perfectly fine.
8. Shut down, disconnected the driver, screwed it back and kept it on port6, restarted comp, everything worked perfectly fine.
9. Posted on AT from the computer.

So it seems like the port1 is bad, and I am connected on a SATAII port, I do not see any performance difference. However, I plan to put the Caviar Black on Port6 and SSD on Port2, which is SATAIII. Not use port1 for now, and obviously, talk with ASUS and try to get replacement.

It does seem like Port 1 is going bad. Luckily, the mechanical drives don't need SATA 6Gb/s at all so you can use Port 2 with no downside.
