SSD lets down Windows 7 Performance index

I have been told before that the Windows performance index is not important, this may be the case, but I am curious as to why my Crucial M225 SSD lets down the side so badly.
The figures are as follows:

Processor 7.5
RAM 7.5
Graphics 7.5
Gaming Graphics 7.5
Primary HD 6.9

Your comments would be appreciated.

That's not a low score. Everything looks perfectly fine to me.

The fastest non conventional hard drives even in raid 0 configurations don't get above 5.9. 7.9 isn't reachable unless you have one of the very best(and most expensive) SSD drives in production, which are a huge waste of money right now anyway.

I have a 30GB OCZ Vertex and it rates a 6.9 too. . . but I seem to think I've seen other people with one getting higher scores. I theorized it might be because I have my SATA controller in IDE mode rather than AHCI. I don't know if I can switch to AHCI without a Windows reinstall, so I live with it for now.

hi guys im new to this forum, and to raid and ssd etc. but ive recently added 2x ocx agility 120gb ssds to my titan onyx system running in raid 0 with backup elsewhere. running at 6gb/s i did a windows index test after all drivers were installed and got a primary disk read out of 7.9 (i was very happy) heres where i get anal about it though.. since ive installed my nessecary programs (all large data goes to a 500gb hdd to save performance on ssds) i did a retest and my ssds went down to 7.8, no new windows updates or such were installed does any1 have an idea what would do this and a possible solution to help me get that all important 7.9 back?

you can change its very easy and dr google knows how.

In the last two years I've learned this and done it a couple of times Same Vertex drive is scoring 7.3 now.

My Corsair Force 3 90GB is rated at 7.9 in AHCI mode. 560r/500w

to run ahci do i need to reformat or just change the bios settings?

You don't need to reformat, but if you just change the BIOS to AHCI you'll likely find that Windows doesn't boot any more.

Assuming you're using Windows 7, you need to do a little registry tweak first.

1) In the Windows start menu search box type regedit, then right-click the entry and click Run as Administrator.

2) In regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservices, in the left pane click msahci, in the right-hand pane right-click Start then click Modify. In the window that opens, change the value to 0 (zero) and click OK.

3) Close, shut down/restart, go into bios and change to AHCI.

That should be it - I've done this a couple of times myself without any issues.

I get 7.9 on a Crucial M4 64GB, and I only paid $90.

Windows Performance Index is kind of a joke in my opinion. Not enough gradients in performance. To easy to get toward the top with good hardware.

No they are not a huge waste of money. I have a owc sata2(3g) drive, and a sata3(6gb) on another system. There is no comparison. The sata 2 drive is still way faster than a spindle drive, but the 6gb drive is probably that much faster again. If you are going to pop some money for a ssd, you may as well get a fast one, or what's the point? This is why it is smart to get a small os drive and a spindle for storage. I had much rather have a 60 something gb os drive and it be the fastest ssd available, than to settle for a 256gb slow ssd.

just figured i was being newbish, raid already runs the enhanced mode.. although 180gb free of 222 seems odd that that would affect my transfer rating? it rated 7.9 before i installed my mmorpg and printer webcam, msn..
