I thought some people may be interested given that more and more laptops have SSD as the option.

for me, im happy with the performance of my laptop with a 7200rpm drive, and im not about to buy something else anytime soon anyway, so *shrug* enjoy?

I'm with you! The biggest SSD is 64 GB - I now have 200 @ 7200 RPM on my T60. Pay $800 more for 136 GB less? Wierd! :)

They have 128GB drives, but the point still remains.

I have a 120GB 5400RPM drive and don't have near enough space for all my crap :

I'll be getting a 320GB external drive to hopefully offset it.. Then I might eventually start looking at SSDs.

i honestly dont see the point to this article. IMHO, anyone who even knows what SSD is in the first place knows that the tech is still WAY too much in its infancy to be a "mainstream" tech at the moment...which I feel that this article is trying to say. Considering that every couple weeks DT has a new article about improved performance/lower price/increased storage, I really think that this market is going to be HUGE in a few years.

One thing that IS going to be a huge selling point (imo at least) to SSDs for consumers: Durability. Working in the service market at the moment, I see TONS of computers, especially laptops, that have trashed hard drives. Many of these issues could be avoided if they were using SSD, so I personally feel this will be a huge bonus for the vast majority of consumers.

While alot of people will be quick to point out the life of the drives, I'd say just the opposite for the majority of consumers. The reason why i say this is that most people dont use their computers for even CLOSE to what people on anandtech do. Therefore, drive life and not read/write life would be much more important in these cases. The only time that would NOT be true is people with too little ram in their comp, and the pagefile getting hammered.

Either way, just my opinion, but I'm personally VERY excited for this tech. Obviously going to be a few years though before its truly worth it, but it seems to have a ton of potential.
