ssd in a quad core setup on a asus p5q deluxe

I love speed and was looking into getting a ssd for more speed on my current setup as follows:

xp pro64 bit atm will be running win 7 home premium shortly
Asus p5q deluxe
2.67 gigahertz Intel Core2 Quad Q9450
4gb ram
750 gb harddrive
ATI Radeon HD 4870
Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800

Question #1 : Will it work on this mobo , it supports achi, but enabling it causes computer to reboot in current setup.

Question #2 : will I be limited by the read write speeds and would it be throwing money away to go to the faster ssd's?

Iam looking at a single 64-80 or 2 40gb drives again would I be better off with one fast drive or raiding the 2 smaller drives?

I know you folks here know more than I and appreciate any info (light) you can shed on this for me

#1. reinstall win7 - ahci mode - trust me on this one.
#2. 64gb drives are 55meg formatted (sandforce) - i found the x25-m 80gb too tight. the 120gb is a better choice. I would strongly suggest an intel x25-m 120gb.

1. will do

2. forgot they have the buffer (extra allocated space), will do, I appreciate the recommendation and will go that route, i just hope the pq5 will be able to enjoy the ssd to its full potential lol

3. Thank you Emulex

The P5Q-D I have runs the ssd fine, see components in my sig. I used to run a couple 15k scsi drives in RAID 0 before trying the ssd out, the ssd is a bit faster than the scsi setup was with less heat and power usage. Wouldn't do without and ssd again for a boot drive.
