SSD+ICH9R+RAID=FAIL. Why?

The cast:
- The Mushkin 60GB Callisto Deluxe, with SandForce SF-1200 controller
- The ICH9R southbridge
- and the RAID

In other words, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly".

I had a RAID on my southbridge, so the BIOS was set to RAID and not to AHCI but I simply tried to put the SSD on ICH9R port 0 anyway.
Didn't worked.
After the first step of Windows 7 installation, he changed his mind and decided that he doesn't like to boot in that way (why? Wasn't the Intel firmware RAID a 'superset' of AHCI?).
Ok then, I switched to AHCI, completed the fresh install and got my first bench on my new SSD :awe:

But, the RAID? The RAID was there anyway, but Intel's "Rapid Storage Technology" won't work. He says that he's trying to connect to some service, and he's still trying to. Over and over again.

What's exactly the problem? Why I can't install my OS when the BIOS is set to RAID? What should I do to get my OS on my SSD along with my old RAID on the same southbridge? :|

You haven't told us what the problem is that you encounter. Also, who is "he" in your message, and what does "doesn't like to boot in that way" mean? It would be nice if you quote an error message or describe what actually happens.

Also, are you sure you're working on Intel controller and not some extra controller by silicon image or some other shitty company that they often include on motherboards?

Even if the RAID is still there and usable in AHCI mode, RST won't work (what happen if the RAID broke? Heh) while if I set the BIOS in RAID mode W7 doesn't boot at all - nor install (because of 'winloader' or something, I cant remember exactly now)

I was just acting like W7 and RST were 'humans' :°p

Yes.

Why I can't install my OS when the BIOS is set to RAID?

Have you entered the Intel RAID set-up?

If you already have an OS system on your existing RAID are you going into the BIOS and setting the boot order?

I'm still confused but since Sub.Mesa is here maybe he can figure it out. :D

Sounds like missing RAID drivers, but Windows 7 should have drivers for Intel RAID arrays already. That brings me to Old Hippie's question; did you actually create an array in the RAID BIOS setup? Then install Windows 7 and it should find your RAID array.

My suggestion: don't. Since then you would also expect them to behave as humans. Instead, treat them as animals; they can't really understand you and are rather dumb, but still as cute. :)

Some suggest that it won't take long for chips to overpower humans in intelligence, though. The terminators are coming!
