My system right now is 4690k/970, and uses a a Spinpoint HD103SJ 1TB HDD that is from like 2010, and a 128GB OCZ vertex 4 windows drive/60 GB OCZ Agility 3 gaming drive.
Is there any benefit, whether because they are so old, or simply because newer tech, to upgrading to current tech? (i.e. 850 EVO or MX300, and whatever current HDD is good).
Also, over the holiday I strongly considered ordering a new system; but ultimately I decided to hang out and wait until the day that both a 7700k and GTX 1170 (which may not exist with their nomenclature skips, but you know what I mean) are available. However, for fun I'd like to see what you think of this build; I was going to order from Cyberpower:
Case: Their house brand with maximum case fans
PSU: EVGA SUpernova 750 gold
Motherboard: Whatever it defaults to, which today was Asus Z170-pro
PSU 6700k
16 GB DDR4 3000
512 GB intel SSD 600p in M2
3 TB HDD (not sure what house brand they use)
Obviously I'll have to retool the build based on what's available on the chipset that goes with 7700k; as far as I know that could be just a few months, although I am not sure when 1170 might come. Speaking of that, any chance that intel Optane will be out with Kaby Lake? And even if so, is that going to be worthwhile for gaming?
