SSD function question

In order to blank all HDDs I sell, I do random overwrites on top of the data to blank the disk. Is this operation necessary, or even a good idea at all with SSD storage? As I understand it, the cells in SSD are made to be written to a certain number of times and then they quit working.

Anyone know about this?

SSD's will work just the same as hard drives. There are algorithms to greatly prolong their life. Overwriting them, once, will not be a problem, although I don't know about defragmenting.

I wasn't under the impression that they needed to be defragged, but I could be wrong. (Heck, I don't even notice much difference after I defrag a traditional hard drive these days.)

My understanding is that while there is a limit to the number of reads and writes a unit of flash memory can tolerate, we've reached the point where that limit is so high that it doesn't matter in every day use.

There is a limit but supposedly they have algorithms that extend the time. Also, you don't need to defrag (probably shouldn't too).

never, EVER, defrag ANYTHING (SSD or otherwise).

As for random writes... what for? just do a full (not quick) format once. even that is probably overkill
