My dad's SSD crashed/died and is now no longer recognized by the BIOS.
I've tried the Crucial power cycle method to no avail and the drive is not recognized on any of the 4 PCs I've tested (during which, multiple SATA cables were used). I've also tried putting it in a Thermaltake Blacx dock, and while the LED color changes (from completely blue to half red/half blue), neither Windows or the Linux Live distro see the drive.
I've already put in a quote request to multiple data recovery services (I'd greatly appreciate recommendations), but if there's anything I can do on my end, it'd be nice to not have to shell out $1000 for data recovery.
While my parents have Acronis True Image installed (both of which do nightly backups of their main drive), apparently my dad's started to fail a couple months back and he never did anything/told me about it. I've been meaning to look into a hands-off online solution and this seems like a pretty good reason to finally make the jump.
I've heard of both Mozy and Carbonite (partially because they lost a bunch of user data two years ago), but it appears the most inexpensive solution (and highest rated by PC Mag) is SOS Online Backup, which I've never heard of.
Biggest thing I'm looking for is the ability to get my parent's and sister's computers (4 in total) synced under one account; probably won't need more than 50GB of storage.
A home server or NAS with nightly backups would obviously be ideal, but I don't live at home and I don't want to have to be tech support for when it crashes.
If anyone has recommendations either in favor of or against online backup services, I'm all ears.
