Hi Everybody,

I own a Dell 1749 with 2 hdd slots and I am about to get an SSD as a replacement for the HDD (put it into the second HDD slot for storage actually). Could anyone tell me which SSD controllers are compatible with this Laptop cuz it seems like only Samsung controller is OKie with this. I wanna buy an SSD based on Sandforce to enjoy its incredible speed. Quite confused at present. If possible to get one coming with Sandforce, which one I should go for? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Any controller should be compatible. All that should matter is that any HDD or SSD you install uses a compatible interface - if the laptop accepts SATA, then the SSD/HDD you install should be SATA and not PATA, for example.

As for which Sandforce-based SSD... I like the Vertex 2. But really, whatever Sandforce-based SSD with the best price would work just as well.

Thanks for your reply but some SSDs may cause BSOD error. That's one of the issues I am concerned abt ( Some SSDs have expereinced this problem on Dell Studio 17🙁()
