Hi there,

I'm trying this another way. I can't seem to process or choose myself. I'm incredibly indecisive. I apologize for this post, but I can't choose =(

The Plan

I'm going to lay out my wants, system specs and choices I've narrowed it down to. In a day or two I will see which of my choices receives the most positive remarks, and purchase that drive.

The Rig

  • i7-930 @ 4200
  • 5970 @ stock
  • 3x2gb@ 6-8-6-20
  • ASUS P6X58D-E
  • 2x 1TB Samsung in RAID
The Requirements

  • Primarily game usage. Focused on MMOs such as WoW and FF14
  • Must fit Win7, WoW, FF14, SC2 and another unknown game [100GB+ estimate]
  • Preferably under $400.
The Choices

Well, that's it. The type of stuff I am looking for would be something like:

"I would buy the C300 Crucial because the read speeds are higher and for your usage you don't really need write speeds all that much".

Or

"I would get the Phoenix Pro because the SandForce controller is much better and more reliable than the C300".

Honestly, for the usage you want it for (mostly games), you aren't going to see big difference between any of them. They are all pretty dang fast, and coupled with your not-too-shabby PC specs, will all do well. Sure if you run bench's one or another will stand out, but not to the point where you'd really notice anything in your actual gaming, boot speed, or application usage. I'd go simply by price and customer service reviews and use the money difference buying a new game to enjoy your new PC.

You're making a big fucking deal out of these drivers. You're playing WoW n shit. Flip a coin and buy a drive already.

You should be more worried about your 1Tb drives. You don't specify what kind of RAID you are using, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume RAID 1 since you list two drives. Like many people, you may believe RAID 1 is a backup solution. It is not. You need to have an independent disk to store your backups on, or you will experience data loss at some point in the future.

I would go for the Vertex 2 because OCZ has a closer relationship with customers than the others. OCZ has an exclusive Sandforce controller (theirs is better than other people's) and they actually converse with customers on their forums. The crucial had been known to have high failure rates (not sure if this is still true.)

Def wouldnt go with the OCZ because their failure rate is terrible and I am always surprised bepole seem to overlook that. Newegg failure rate is about 16%; now although it was 20% not so long ago. Do I want a drive that has a 1 in 5 chance of bricking within the first week?

I would prob grab the C300 because you seem to care about having a futureproof system and, well SATA3/USB3 is the way.

I would scrap all three and go with an Intel G2 if you can't wait or a g3 if you can wait.
