SSD Benchmarks

How bad is it to run a benchmarking tool on a ssd drive? Do they really kill the life of the drive that much, should I simply not ever do the benchmark or should I run it to double check everything is in proper working condition?

I have always been a bencher but at the same time I don't want to degrade my crucial m4 64gb drive. I just want to ensure it's working the way it should, and that is what benchmarks do :)

Thoughts?

Also, if I should bench it, what do you guys recommend ATTO?

bench it once or twice. if you have stuff installed ON the drive and running benchs, the results wont be as good as the original

BRB finding you a link about how people are write-testing their SSDs, and they only died after writing LOTS of GBs/TBs/PBs...

EDIT2: anandtech forum doesn't want to behave... erroring out :(... i'll give you the link when I find it

EDIT3: found it...

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?271063-SSD-Write-Endurance-25nm-Vs-34nm&

Endurance test for SSDs. Basically, dont worry. The SSDs tested shows a wear indicator of 50% after writing > 100TB of files...for a 64GB SSD, you have to write 64GB over 1562.5 times.... if you write 64GB to your drive every day, thats still 4 years

With the TRIM option wouldn't this be less to worry about? I just want this crucial m4 to last a really long time, I am even thinking about grabbing another one for raid 0.

What are your guys thoughts about raiding 64gb crucial m4's?

As far as the benchmarks, which ones do you recommend. I will go run one or two and see what they say :)

http://download.techworld.com/3248894/as-ssd-benchmark-16/
-I use this one as a reference on how my raid 0 is doing having no Trim.
-after a clean wipe\new it comes in at 810ish total points for my 2 intel 120gb G2's
-installed them in dec.2010 , clean wiped them in mar. 2011 when the bench showed 700ish.-went back up to 810ish.
-just ran it now and has dropped down to 700ish from mar.2011 ,so will leave as is for now .
-intel should have trim in raid support soon , if you can get the bios from your mb maker.
-I run the bench for the ssd's about once a month.
