SSD and Steam

Am I wrong or should a SSD speed up the load times when booting a game from Steam or will the SSD only boot Steam quicker and not its internal applications (ie. games)?

I installed a few games directly onto the SSD and they boot insanely fast, but I see no change with Steam games.

The SSD will only boost the data physically installed on it. Even if Steam is installed to that SSD, if the games aren't actually on the SSD too, they will not receive the speed benefit.

Steam games are installed in subfolder of steam itself.

They should ran faster than they would on the mechanical drive. I have dual boot - one HDD, one SSD, and I've experienced this first person.

Not if he's installing them to a different drive, which is what it sounds like to me. I guess that should have been the first response. Are your Steam games on the SSD, or a mechanical drive?

Steam isntalls its games in its own directory, so where ever you put that is where those steam games went.

But even then you may find some games dont load faster because they are actually CPU limited and not disk IO limited.

Valve recently added a feature that allows you to control where Steam games are installed to.

In other words, you can tell Steam to install games in locations that are not your Steam folder.

You've been able to install Steam games wherever you please for a long time, even before Valve built the feature into Steam.
