Howdy.

I have a MacBook Pro that I am thinking about swapping out the DVD for a second hard drive (barely use the thing as it is). Currently I have a 500GB 7200rpm drive in there and I want to add an Intel 160GB (or 80GB, haven't decided). I use OS X, obviously, but am also running Windows 7 mostly for gaming. Ideally, I would like both OSes to benefit from having the SSD, maybe split it in half for the 80GB or 100GB/60GB OSX/W7 split for the larger. I know the SSDs can be partitioned, but what are the downsides?

There is no downside unless you end up with a misaligned partition. I have no idea how mac's handle partition alignment. Hell, for all I know, this is a windows only issue. Microsoft only recently figured out that partition alignment matters.
