SSD and OS X

Howdy!

I swapped out the DVD drive for an Intel SSD in my MacBook Pro. I am getting ready to do a reformat job to properly setup OS X. Did some funny business the first time, like using the 500GB drive for my user profile. Slowed down the computer considerably...

So, how can I re-condition the SSD so its completely cleared? Can I do it in OS X, or is my best bet to get it connected to my Windows 7 machine and run the Intel software to bring it back to snuff?

hfs+ is a bit different than ntfs; the ssd should be one designed for mac which would mean it just has garbage collection in tune with (hfs+,ext3,etc) since trim is not supported.

or just use it.
