im done with my ocz vertex3 crapping out on me...

looking to go another direction.
getting 2 intel 320 160gig's and running RAID0
or, getting the 510 250gig as a single.

any thoughts?

not if i over provision the drives.
i think the GC will work just fine.
i'll be using the vertex 3 as a scratch drive for photo editing.

That is absolutely correct if you implement low activity(simply logging out of Windows works very well) idle recovery time for GC to work efficiently.

Keep in mind that you usually need to temp disable sleep modes though to keep power to the SSD's. S3 sleeps will kill power to the drive and S1 should be used instead if you don't want to temp disable sleep in W7 power options.

Depending on write loads to the array.. you should be fine with about 5-10 hrs of idle time recovery per week. Best to implement it after a larger than average workload as well. Good luck with it.

PS.. I know you're tired of the V3 issues by now but I have helped and witnessed many who have been able to work through the underlying issues on some systems. PM me if you want a "throw the kitchen sink at it" approach to give it one last shot. Takes less than 1 hr to do it all including the OS install. Very frustrating stuff, I know, and completely understandable if you have had enough of it by now.

groberts....

been with you over in the other forum......
sorry but i've done it all. just want to ditch this drive.
for that mater, i WILL NOT buy another sandforce series drive till all "bugs" in all brands have been worked out. my intel 320 in my laptop has been flawless since day one, even with the block 13 bug which has been resolved.
the only 6g drive i would currently buy would be an intel 510 series.

you will get phenomenal random performance if you raid the two 320's. random performance on the 510 isn't stella. 320 controller is quite resilient by design and you will get more space. I would probably go that route.

Could also go with M4's. Crucial's garbage collection works great. you don't need to worry about not having trim; thats a thing of the past
