SSD and Marvell sata 3 issues - possible move to sata 2

Happy new year all

I have an Asus P6x58D-E and a new Crucial M4 128gb SSD.
I have updated my MD bios to the latest 0701, my M4 has the latest version 0009 firmware, and I'm currently trying the Marvell 1.0.0.1045 driver for my Sata 3 connections. When this fails (I have low confidence right now) I will probably try 1.0.0.10xx or something, with as much confidence as I have now.

So I think there's a good chance I'll have to move mt SSD to an intel sata 2 connection, but until I've tried the sata 3 a few times, I'm holding off.

My question:
I installed Win7 with my SATA set to AHCI.
If I have to give up on Sata 3 and move my SSD to sata 2, should I re-install Win 7, or just move the connection?

Because if moving to sata 2 means I should re-install Win 7, I won't bother spending hours installing everything (MS office, Lightroom, PS, Steam, etc etc), I'll wait to see what my system stability is like.
But if the worst case is simply moving my SSD to sata 2 and carrying on, I'll proceeed with the boring task of installing loads.

Many thanks for any advice.

uninstall the Marvell drivers and reboot. That will cause Windows to revert to its defualt MSAHCI driver. Then simply shutdown and reattach to the Intel port with no reinstall necessary. I've swapped back and forth dozens of times without issue.

Then you can install the Intel RST driver or stick with the msahci driver.

I know groberts loves Intel's RST driver :p

lol.. with raids.. I wouldn't dream of running without that beautiful caching performance. Latency reductions ain't bad either.

Great, thanks. If doing that, would I leave the MB set to AHCI?

I don't yet know what the RST driver is.

I'm not running a raid set-up, just one SSD.
My intel connections are just sata 2.

Yes leave the SATA controllers set to AHCI in BIOS.

Intel RST is Intels storage driver for the SATA 3Gbps ports on your motherboard.

There has to be a driver attached to the storage ports. Whether it was a previous Marvell driver, Microsoft default (msahci) or Intels driver, which is called Rapid Storage Technology. Latest version is 10.8.0.1003 which you can get from their website.

Thanks.
I will start loading everything, and see how I get on with sata3 (6gbs). Probably back to sata2 in a few days.

Confidence picking up, I've not had an error since 1st Jan.
