i have a i7 920, Giga X58a-ud7, 1 WD 1tb and 1 SSD Crucial C300 arriving tomorrow.

my prob is that i have Win7 installad on my WD ( 50gb Primary Partition, 900GB logical partiton dunno how i messed up with my Partition Fromat bla bla) and i wanna format the primary partion, keep only SSD bootable.

anyways since i ordered C300 64gb especially for OS, my problem is how to install win7 on my C300 considering the fact that i alrdy have Win7 on my WD hdd and can't format it.

I know i have to turn AHCI mode in bios, i will look for it because i don't know where it is, then set my C300 as 1st boot device, install win7 on my SSD and then from Win7 Format the WD Partition?

don't wanna screw up boot or somethin and get dual Windows logon screen and stuff.

if i didn't make my prob clear enough i will try and rephrase it....thx for help

I think the only place you will run into trouble is with AHCI mode. If you originally set up yorr W7 install on the HDD in IDE mode, you can't simply copy an image to the SSD in AHCI, because it won't boot. There is a way to switch to AHCI, but it's a little complicated, and I haven't actually used this method.

If you decide to do a fresh install on the SSD, and not restore an image to it, that is simple, and straight forward.

Copy all documents and data from your OS partition to your data partition. You will delete the OS partition, so make sure you have a copy of all data you want to save.

Boot to the W7 CD, and delete the OS partition on the 1Tb drive.

Disconnect the HDD, and connect the SSD, switch to AHCI mode, and boot to the W7 CD.

See this thread about installing W7 without the small system partition the install makes by default.

Install W7 to the SSD, plug the HDD back in, and enjoy the speed boost.
