Hey I'm just looking for some advice on SSD's

I've currently got this system:

intel core i7 930,
gigabyte ga-x58-usb3 motherboard
6gb corsair 1600mhz ddr3
nvidia gtx 570 from evga
samsung 7200rpm HDD 1tb. not sure the exact model.

I'm looking at getting myself a new SSD because even though the system is incredibly fast in some ways in others its quite slow which suprises me.

I'm currently looking at a Corsair Force F90 SSD I've heard very good things about these drives.

I'm not sure wither its worth waiting for a while to pick up a new SSD, the new Vertex 3 drives from OCZ and the intel 510 series are almost double the price, 90gb corsair is £127 and 120gb intel is £220. Also since I've not got myself a SATA3 compatable MOBO would I even notice much difference, even with a SATA 3 would I notice a great deal of difference in boot time etc?

I have the force F60 and it's a really great SSD and boot times are a fraction of the time compared to my WD Black

Windows 7, Bad Company 2, BF2, CS:S, other small shit and still have a good 20GB left.

brilliant, means the F90 should fit on all I need, mainly dragon age 2 and dawn of war 2 lol.

Cheers man,

Now just need to decide wither or not to hit "Buy"

My Advice is get the largest SSD you can honestly afford.

Space is such a luxury on SSD's that you really want the largest possible.

If not, then you can do what i did in my slow migration.
Basically get one.. then get another when on sale and then raid... and then get another and raid again using Intel Matrix so you dont need to refomat.

However you lose Trim. To me honestly im not seeing a big improvement with Trim over the standard garbage collection native on most SSD's.

But i started out on intel 40gigers G2... got another one.... so it looked like this:

Got a third... and then realized i wanted a lot more space.. grab'd a C300 256 to end it, so it looks like this:

<3 racks btw :)

thats a 5 1/4 bay that holds 4 2.5 drives.

yes.

It depends on your overclock too as weird as it may seem.
I couldnt go back to standard magnetic drives.

But basically what i do is my OS drive is the Raid 0.

When i install a program, something productive, i'll install it on my OS drive.
If its a game, i change the letter path to D : so it installs on the C300.

So the C300 has all my games on it.

systems not overclocked yet, kinda want to but sorta cant be annoyed with the hassle and its not strugling doing anything yet.

Gona wait until I see a good deal on an SSD and go for it I think :D

Also bear in mind that SSDs scale in performance with size. e.g. current 256GB SSDs are measurably faster than 128s, 128s a LOT faster than 64s. They stripe their data across all chips on the circuit board, a lot like a mini-RAID. I personally feel it's not worth buying anything less than a 128GB C300/C400 or Corsair for the boot drive. And evidently the Corsairs are excellent.

+1

And u can get another and RAID them with intel Matrix for double the size when you get another on sale.

However the intel G2 SSD's are Tanks.
They have the lowest fail rate out of all the SSD's at a performance which is unoticable to most standards vs a sandforce SSD.

Do you lose TRIM when RAIDing? Does it even matter?
