SSD adapters 2.5 to 3.5 and Lian Li Cases (some)

Remember my post about the OCZ SSD adapters not having standard size\thread screw holes as those on a HDD - so you couldn't use the adapter on Lian Li HDD cages that used the rubber washer slide-on method of mounting the drives? Well just received an adapter made by Addonics from SVC and have the exact same problem.

It occurred to me that they really have no need to use the standard size/thread screw holes because you are not mounting a HDD. They do provide the appropriate size screws so you can mount the SSD in "standard" drive cages- - - - but what's the big deal with not just using the standard for HDD in their adapter mount? Is it because there are really few cases that use the Lian Li method - are they the only ones? Newer cases from Lian Li and others have 2.5" mounting built in.

And the real clinker in this is I have an Intel 80GB SSD that came with an adapter that uses standard HDD mounting screw size/thread. It went into my case like clockwork - so the OCZ and now Addonics adapters came as somewhat of a surprise.

I resolved my problem, but thanks for the info.

My Lian Li came with an 5.25 to 3.5 tray for floppies or other such devices with a face plate. I was able to mount the Addonics adapter in the 3.5 tray. It was a tight fit near the face of the unit because the bracket that you would remove if mounting a floppy drive or whatever had to be left in place as I didn't want that open space on the front of my computer. I still couldn't use the bracket that OCZ supplied because for some reason their bracket doesn't mount the SSD in the center of the adapter but over close to one edge.
The screws that came with the OCZ bracket are tiny things and would barely screw through the bracket and the mounting, but the addonics screws were longer - and would run into the edge of the SSD.

Well, anyway I ramble - the SSD is happily mounted in the space below my DVD/CD drive. It should be fine as far as ventilation - it doesn't produce any heat to speak of.
