Burns DVD+ R and DVD - R disks at 16X, if you can find them.

It's in OEM form, not retail package.

A quick note to all: the Optical drive review site www.cdrinfo.com has this Samsung drive in it's shop and is currently testing it.

The guys there are indicating that this drive is getting mixed results. See CDRInfo.com forums for more info.

Incidentally, I have no interest in or connection with CDRInfo.com.

NewEgg has the Nec 3500 for $70 plus $5 shipping, $75 delivered for the best quality 16X DVD+/- dual layer burner that you can presently buy. Why fool with anything else?

not trying to thread crap but since htne mentioned it... the black version of the NEC 3500 at Newegg is on sale for $72 + Free Shipping. It has gotten excellent reviews.

I've probably bought 20 of the NEC 2500's and never a problem. I just started buying the 3500's just for the faster CD-r writing. In about 2 years I guess we'll see 16x DVD media.

i've been using Be-All media and burning @ 12x with no problems on the drive, It isnt 3 times faster than 4x though, takes about 9.5 minutes compared to 14.5 @ 4x.

I dont care about 16x media, Just give me some cheap 8.5 DL disks!!!! This is BS $10 a disk!!! for a DL
