I took some spare parts and build a WoW pc for my wife.
Components are
2.8ghz P4 @ 400mhz FSB
SS-51g V.2
1G pc3200 SDRAM (2 @ 512)
BFG 6600gt OC
PC-50 300w powersupply
ICE cpu cooler
BIOS is latest downloadable
20" LCD 8ms
NO overclocking of system or video card (have NEVER been OC'd)
All the settings are set to the midpoint between performance and quality. The case is removed. After playing for long periods 4 to 8 hrs, she starts getting video tearing that starts minimally and over the course of a half hour to hour gets so bad you cannot play the game at all. Rebooting corrects the problem and annoys her IMMENSLY!!
I have tried ALL the various V-Sync options and triple buffering options and other various video settings both to prevent the tearing and to correct it when it was tearing. I have adjusted every BIOS option dealing with voltages and video. Bottom line is that I can make it worse, but cannot fix the problem.
Over the course of troubleshooting, I have swapped out or replaced every component EXCEPT the MB and CPU.
Any clues? ANY help is greatly appreciated... Cuz when momma isn't happy, no-one is happy. *grin*
