SRT Troubles

Hello,

I just finished building a computer with a Z68, 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.

What I want to do is install my OS, updates and drivers on the SSD, then games and non system programs on the HDD. Then I want to use the remaining space on the SSD to cache for my HDD.

I made sure the SATA mode in BIOS was set to "Raid Mode" before installing the OS. After I installed the OS, I installed the SRT drivers from the disk that came with the motherboard. When I go into the IRST program, there is no "Accelerate" option for me to assign my SSD and HDD together. The instructions are very brief, and any trouble shooting manuals don't have my particular issue listed.

Not sure what's wrong here. Is there supposed to be a cable connecting the SSD and HDD together or something? Can someone knowlegable with this provide a thorough step by step walkthrough if needed?

The disk drives I'm using are:

SSD -120GB OCZ Vertex3 connected to SATA6
HDD -1TB Seagate Barracuda connected to SATA3

SRT- OS/system files has to be on the HDD. SSD is used for cache only. Google "Intel SRT," it's on the frontpage of AT.

Btw, you have a 120GB SSD. SRT only supports up to 64GB of cache. With a ssd that large, it would be much better for your setup to install your OS and apps on the SSD, and save media files to the HDD. You'll have to keep an eye on how many apps/games you run off the SSD, but it will still be a large improvement.

Thanks,

I'm aware of the 64GB limit. Was hoping that I could use the remainder of my SSD which is around 70ishGB.

Would getting another SSD work or does the OS have to be on the HDD for this to work?

Wow, this is really confusing me. Heheh. Why would you want to install your OS on the SSD, put your apps on the HDD, and then use the rest of the space on the SSD as a cache?

First of all, no, it won't work. But even if it did, it still doesn't make much sense. The cache tech is designed by Intel for people who have a small SSD to experience greater speeds primarily. If you have a small SSD and you use the SRT, you can get a considerable performance boost over stock. If you have a larger SSD as you do, you make that your primary drive and use the HDD for storage. I'm not sure what you want to do, but it most likely will not work.

Thanks, that is exactly what I'm trying to do. Looks look I have another complete system install ahead of me. This will be my 3rd time trying to get this working. Thanks again for the link
