Squeaky brakes

I replaced the brake pads on a hyundai sante fe, and a month later there is a very annoying squeak coming (seemingly) from the rear upon braking. I had the owner stop by using only the parking brake, and still the squeak could be heard. The parking brake is a separate system located inside the rear rotors.

The hyundai dealer adjusted the parking brake, but still the squeak remains. They claimed that the cheap autozone brake pads were the cause of the squeak, but I'm not sure I buy that.

When I installed the pads, I used that stop squeak stuff, but they only had the spray-on type which is much thinner than the one in the tube.

as long as you have brakes it should not be an issue.

I have seen cheap brake pads cause brake noise, it's the material build up on the rotor that could cause it. Have you checked to make sure you tighten every bolt correctly, a loose bolt could also cause this. And dust shields can be too close to the rotor and rub when braking.

Just some thoughts.

It could be the Autozone brake pads. For pads, I'd stick with OEM parts.

I would say the cheaper brake pads are the source of your noise. There are several ways to decrease the noise. The shop should cut the rotors and finish with an non-directional finish with a 120 or 180 grit sanding wheel. If using the cheap pads, cut a chamfer on each edge of the pads ends. Typically this noise is caused by brake dust and is usually more prevelant on the front because of the metallic and carbon content of the pads.

Most brake noises if the brakes are newer, come from either crap pads or brake dust. A lot of wheels that don't have big spaces for the air to get in behind the wheel build up the dust and it causes squeeks.

The reason your beakes are squeaking is the fact that the pads had no back cut, and that no grease/glue was used to hold the pad to the piston/caliper.

My brakes squeak too. If I just pull the wheel off (79 buick), can I visibly tell if the pads are worn down, or do you have to take off other stuff too ("hard stuff" ) ?

Porsche brakes squeal all the time... for a different reason (high metallic content in the pads)
Mine don't and still stop plenty good... carbon kevlar metallic pads rock.
