Squeaking from exhaust pipe...

Recently, I replaced the Catalytic Converter on my truck (1995 Toyota Tacoma). Everything went smoothly and the CC is in place securely like the other one.

For the past couple months I have been dealing with a squeaking noise coming from the exhaust area.

The sound goes away when I hit the gas but recently is present everywhere else. Whether I am stopped at a light, in neutral, in 1st with the clutch down, or just cruising around in gear.

Am I correct in assuming that the only possible cause must and an exhaust leak somewhere? It sounds to me that when I accelerate, it provides much more back pressure to the exhaust and therefore the noise isn't as apparent.

I checked and rechecked the bolts as well as the flanges on either side of the CC and everything is secure.

Does anyone have any suggestions? (Also when I bought the CC from NAPA, there was something rattling around in there-- bothered me because I thought it may be the platinum element-- Didn't think much of it because my O2 readings weren't skewed enough to trip the Maintenance Req'd light. When I am stopped or off the accelerator (before the squeaking) you could hear a distinct rattle from the back of the car)

Metal parts don't squeak. If it's truly squeaking, it's probably just a rubber exhaust hanger binding a little somewhere.

An exhaust leak would be a light pinging or tapping or chuffing noise and is usually made worse as engine speed/load increases.

My bet is that something other than the catalytic converter is loose in the exhaust.
