My belts are squeaking... and no amount of silicone conditioner will stop it longer than 5 minutes. Seems like I need to replace the tensioner but it's going to cost $100. Problem is... i don't want to spend $100... my dad surely doesn't want to spend more than $20 on a 12 year old POS car that has been through 3 accidents and is about to fall apart in another year or so. I'm still saving up for my own car since i'm not one of those ooooh so lucky kids who got a car when they graduated high school. :D I've replaced the belt twice in a year and the noise seems to come back eventually. It only squeaks when i'm idle and goes away when i'm on the gas. :( Its quite annoying every morning especially... you should see the attention i get... it gets more looks than these ricers with civics and their farting exhausts... :)

I used to have a GMC pickup truck and man I never could get rid of that stupid squeaking noise. Good truck, but that noise was a pain. I had a tensioner wheel that squeaked, the dealer replaced it under warranty and the thing still squeaked. I used WD40 from time to time, but eventually I just learned to live with it. :(

$100 to drive a car squeek-free for "another year or so" sounds like a good deal to me.

(Anybody know why your name is misspelled on the main page? The "last post" column says boyRacer .)

My '96 Sentra does that as well, and my previous car (a 2000 Sentra) did it too.

The 2000 got fixed under warranty b/c the belt was 'dirty' or something. It's not worth it to get the '96 Sentra fixed.

try a candle or some door ease on the belt.
get it idling and hold a candle to the underside of the belt, same thing for the door ease.

you can actually change the way your name looks if you sign in with different caps on... it'll stay that way for your first post only :)

Take a bar of soap and hold it on the inside of the belt while the car is running. Make sure you keep your sleeves rolled up, it is a little dangerous, but it works. Will have to do it every few weeks, but it is a temporary fix.

this does work very well in fact but you dont have to have it running just slide the bar of soap back and forth on all the exposed belt firmly then start the car it will do the job ;)

Dont get rid of the squeak didnt you know that squeak adds like 100 hp to it..just like ricer stickers and the fart mufflers.

When a ricer pulls up next to u at a stop light look over with confidence and give him a smirk, then squeak at him and feel the raw 100 hp of additional power!!
