Square Trade - how are they to deal with?

I'm thinking seriously about getting a Square Trade accidental policy on a digital camera I recently bought on the theory it's much more likely to be dropped than anything but my indestructible dumbphone, and less likely to recover from it. Not to mention the friends/family who will inevitably use it. I bought the camera on sale and can't afford to replace it at normal prices, and don't expect to replace it for at least a few years. Since it's a (brand) new model, I'm hoping I'd be more likely to get a refurb than my original cost if it's not worth repairing, dunno how that would work out...


What I am wondering is, what is Square Deal like if you do have to file a claim for digicam? Do they do everything imaginable to deny the claim, or do they do just make you jump through the usual hoops and then make good?

I bought the extended and accidental when I got my NEX. I've never had to file a claim with them but from the majority of the reviews they seem to honor the claims without much of a fight.

I have a policy with them for my wife's laptop. The thing started rebooting randomly (something wrong with video card) and sent it in. Took about a week for them to approve the claim from UPS picking it up. Still waiting on it to be repaired but it is within the normal timeframe. So far my experience has been good. My only complaint is that the the web site claim status does not give a lot of detail.

i had it on my iphone 4, with accident policy. while washing dishes, my phone was in my shirt pocket and when i lean in to pick some stuff up, it slip out.

I submit a claim, send proof of recept, etc, pay the 50 deductible and they ship a refurb phone out to me and i ship mine back in the box they provided. I had 0 problem.

I recently bought square trade for 2 slingbox and a contour helmet cam off ebay.

had 0 issues so far.

Thanks everyone. I've always been a little leary of extended warranties in general but for some products, they just seem to make sense...
