The way that's written, the answer could just be 2x.

As in... square root of ((2x)^2).

:) Ain't it fun not being able to use mathematical symbols in posts.

Order of operations. By defalt exponents are calculated before multipication.

+/- sqrt(2)*x

don't forget the +/-! ;)

again, that's assuming the order of operations is correct, i.e. it's 2*(x^2) not (2*x)^2
