Square Pan Pizza

Aves

Lifer
Anyone remember this place back from the '80s? I think it was a SoCal thing only.

For some reason I just randomly remembered that my mom always used to take me here when we would go to Santa Monica Mall; probably to appease me since I hated going shopping as a kid. I remember really liking the pizza but considering I was in elementary school I probably wasn't too hard to please.

There is surprisingly little info on this company available online. Best I can tell the owners sold out completely to Sbarro back in the early '90s. I feel pretty confident that the pizza was probably better than that at least.

Pizza hut has pan pizza

I dont know how people eat the cheap pizza hut and other major chains pizza. Spend the extra four dollars for the pie at your local pizza place, as you place orders try out different local shops and see who makes it best, its not hard to find a good pizza.

I worked at a Square Pan store at a mall in Oregon starting the April before I finished high school.

The chain was bought by Sbarro about 20 months later.

I didn't realize they had restaurants that far north. Did you stay on after it was Sbarro? I imagine they just essentially just replaced everything with Sbarro menu items, logos, etc.

Rocky Rococo has had square pizzas since the seventies. A rival local chain used the phrase "In a world where pi r squared, ours are round."

I was about to move an hour away before the buyout occurred, so I stayed on, but only for a few weeks.

Yeah, everything was replaced for Sbarro branded stuff. No more "One ranch P-Meal please." from the cashiers to the cook in back. That was Square Pan code for a slice of pepperoni pizza and a salad with ranch dressing

Funny you say that. I'm driving 2 1/2 hrs tomorrow to visit a Donatos. And Fry's Electronics! 🙂 (Indy)

They once existed in GA and were the fastest-growing national pizza chain that year (though two others claimed the same). I'm not a vegetarian nor did I have any reason to avoid meat, but I ordered and ate the heck out of their veggie subs for the simple fact that they were PURE AWESOME.
