I tried it for a bit. Didn't care for it at all. Just couldn't get into it.

can anyone get into this game. or do you ahve to be like pro-rpg to get into it. im looking for a cool rpg game.. but all the text kills me.. i even tried to play pokemon diamond and could because of all the text. ick

There's not an excessive amount of text, but you can't just gloss over it or you won't know what to do and where to go. I thought the storyline was fairly interesting, but if you've been easily bored by other RPGs you'll probably feel the same about this one.

Indeed, luckily the thing about this game with dialog is the text flows very well. It's not a bunch of paragraphs that involve the characters talking about what's going on, the conversations feel real and read like an animated comicbook with text and thought bubbles, which made it easier for me to get into since I hate lots of text as well.

The one thing that did get on my nerves a little after a while was that half the time when you went from one part of Shibuya to the next there is a conversation scene between Neku and his partner as soon as you appear, they are usually short though.

I'm really liking how they have it set up after you beat the game too. I plan to go through every chapter and complete all the missions so I can learn more about the story (that's another thing, once it ends not all the questions are answered, but it says finishing the missions promise to answer any lingering questions) which is great incentive for the replay value. Not like I needed more, I want to master all my pins!

I don't get all the love that Elite Beat Agents gets, either. I put probably five or six hours into that, and it's alright.

Heh, I'll defend EBA as the most epic game on the DS till the day I die. You haven't lived until you perfect'd Jumpin' Jack Flash on Sweatin' difficulty with the EBA Divas... whew! The thing is I usually don't go for games like this but it plays so well on the DS and is so easy to just pick up and start playing. The tracks list is pretty good too, nice mix of new stuff with older rock.

I didn't like the dual screen battle system at first either, but the trick is to not even pay attention to the top unless you're waiting for your pins to reboot. Just set auto-play to fast and the DS literally plays the top screen for you and does a pretty good job. As time goes on it gets tricky with different characters but at that point you'll most likely have a good feeling for it and it becomes second nature.

Wouldn't even make my top 10 DS games list.

Can be the best game in the world and I'll still never see it. I'm way too old to be playing hand held consoles.

right....there is not age limit on video games, be it hand held or console.

There is when you have the option of staring at a handheld game like a toddler with one of those rainbow colored spiny hats on or relaxing in a leather lazyboy with a real console (hell, could be a SNES for all I care) and a 72" LCD TV anchored to a wall with a 5.1 surround system around you.

Pretty much like going from a Festiva to a Lamborghini Diablo.

While the handheld experience doesn't have quite the "oomph" of a home theater, it does have its place. I enjoy using my DS sometimes, even though I also have a home theater. Odds are about even that I'm even older than you are. FWIW, I had the same exact attitude you did about not needing a handheld, until someone gave me a DS.

It's all about the games.

But each to his own. :)

That's fine, I'm not saying you're stupid for not liking it, but almost anyone with a DS that I introduce it to loves it and the reviews are positive across the board. A game like this isn't going to appeal to everyone but I seriously think it's still in the top 3 of US releases.

Re: handhelds vs consoles, I'm actually hoping the PSP2 comes with an HDMI output and the ability to use a DS3 as a controller. Best of both worlds!

Keep in mind that the combat mechanics change depending on the pins you use and other factors (which are purposely vague to avoid spoilering). Some pins/gestures which are utterly painful to use at the start can later become very powerful in conjunction with the right abilities (or simple levelling/evolution).
This doesn't change the fact that, frankly, the attacks don't seem to control very well. I blame this on having multiple badges active at a time - sounds better than it was, to some extent.

You were on the 3rd week/4th day and didn't have the ability to SUB your pins?? I think I got that ability back in the 2nd week and it solved almost any psyche issues between pins that operate the same way. But yeah, before getting that ability it was kinda annoying but before being able to SUB I think I only had 4 open pin slots so it wasn't overwhelming. Moving Neku around was sometimes frustrating as well since you HAVE to move him using the stylus in battles. FeathersMcGraw is spot on in saying it is a truly unique experience though, everything in the game is fresh and it was a lot of fun learning and experimenting along the way.
