Once my desktop loads, I'm getting a box that shows "sqlmanager.exe" and then "Unable to Locate DLL." Under that is a really long file path.

Any clue on what's going on or is a reformat inevitable? :(

Do you intend to start SQLManager at startup? If so, then I would reinstall the SQL Server client components. Sounds like you're missing a library. If not, then you can remove it from whereever it is getting loaded. Start msconfig from the Start->Run dialog and see whether SQLManager is listed in the startup group, Run, RunOnce, etc., then report back.

Yes, the SQL agent is checked and listed as "Common Startup." But I need it to run at startup for a work-related application. But I can't get that application to even open up because of the sql issue I'm having.

I reinstalled the latest Windows service pack but that didn't fix the problem. Not sure what exactly I need to reinstall beyond that.

Running Windows 2000 Pro, btw
