hey all, so I have a web host and I have an sql server database on there. I want to copy it to my machine so I can test some things without damaging that live database. I have sql server 2005 dev edition, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this.
I see there is an option for "copy database" but when I enter my credentials for the live server, and then it asks "which database to copy" it's trying to load a list of ALL the databases so I can choose the one I want to copy (which is mine obviously), but when it tries to pull up that list it says I don't have permission to access the first one and then it just stops. do you know what I mean? like it's SUPPOSED to list all the db in the server, and I choose mine, but since I don't have permission to access the other databases on the server, it just stops and shows me a blank screen so I can't choose my database!
this is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. why can't they just put in a "script the whole damn database" and I Can run the script to my local server. stupid stupid stupid... and yes I'm stupid too for not knowing the right way to do it, but come on why would they intentionally leave this out?
anybody know what I can do to transfer the db from the live server to my testing server?
thanks
