SQL primer?

What database? MS Sql, Oracle, MySQL? It's just a tad bit different depending on the server. Hell, I'm converting your docs for ya, what kinda SQL statement you need? ;)

I realize that the web is free, but for techincal information, in my mind, nothing beats an honest-to-gosh treeware manual. I just can't get used to online reference documents.

Wrox press has a decent SQL book that starts at ground zero and builds from there.

I agree, I have about 4 SQL books sitting next to me right now, but he just wanted the basics, and that site's about as basic as it gets.
