Can anyone tell me the differences between SQL 7.0 and Access? What are the pros and cons of using them and what is a better choice. Also, does anyone know the requirements to run them

SQL Server 7.0 doesn't let you code a nice front-end. Some use Access to code a front end and use SQL all in the back-end....

The main differences between SQL 7.0 and Access are scalability and money.

If you're running a database like the one behind the Anandtech Forums, and have LOTS of money to spare use SQL 7.0.

If you're making a database for an application that doesn't have a lot of concurrent users, use Access.

actaully SQL 7 doesnt cost that much money, and Access is a lot more powerful than people think (Acces 2000 at least). The main thing for me is the stored procedures SQL 7 lets you have, they are faster than anything Access can do. SQL 7 is a very competitive product with Oracle 8x but for a fraction of the cost. IMO, for a small website, use Access, for a medium up to enterprise level website, use SQL Server

True, SQL 7.0 liscensing is much less than Oracle, but it's still quite expensive. The software itself may not be that bad, but the licensing is pretty steep.

This is from Microsoft's website, for SQL 2000. I would think that SQL 7.0 pricing would be comparable:

Processor Licensing
  • $19,999 US per processor (Enterprise Ed.)
  • $4,999 US per processor (Standard Ed.)

Server/Per-Seat CAL License
  • Enterprise, 25 seats: $11,099
  • Standard, 10 seats: $2,249

Compare this to Access, which is what, 100 bucks?
