Programs such as KaZaA Media Desktop are full of Spyware as everybody says (and 1 reason I'm not using that program).

But what is Spyware in basic?

Thanks in advance.

Spyware is basically a background application that runs on your computer and collects information (such as where you go on the net, what you download, or even more sensitive information)... then it proceeds to send this information back to whoever it's programmed to...

Most of the time these information is used for advertising... but they can be used for more destructive purposes...

Just like BCYL said, spyware sends back personal information (often without your knowledge) to a third party. If you're not sure if you're spyware-free, take a look at Ad-aware. There's a free version that scans your hard drive and lets you know if anyone's stepping on your privacy.

If the Main reason you dont use kazaa is because of the spyware in it, then jsut get Kazaa Lite, it is basicly kazaa but somebody has gone in and removed all the usless things (shopping, banzai buddy) and all the spyware. works jsut as good as the real version as well

Could KaaZaa have been what was eating up ~80MB of RAM (out of the 128MB installed) on my sister's W2K pc? Even tho it wasn't running or net connnected? Or, could it have been AOHell? Hehe.....AdAware only found 130+ instances of spyware on the pc.
Yeah, I know 128MB is skimpy on the RAM.

You should also download the HOSTS file found on the Kazaa Lite website. This will prevent most of the unwanted advertising sites all around the 'Net from "messing" with your privacy.

hamburglar--Nope, not mine.....my sister's, courtesy of a niece and nephew.

Biggs--Thanks. I've given them this thread. It's up to them, cuz I won't be fixing the pc again. Not with AOL on it.
