spyware or virus in google

I have a problem when I open google search. I type a letter in googles letterbox, and instead of saved previous searched things coming up, a list of diferent things pops up, and it lists all the search results. For instance, if I type the letter S, a whole series of names comes up that I have never even searched for before, and it lists their results with a sequence of numbers. How do I get rid of this? I had this come up before and a system restore took care of it. Now it wont leave even with restore. Please help, thanks in advance.
