Spyware or just dumb IE?

I think it's spyware but before I completely rip the computer apart by scanning and removing things, I need to know for sure. When I use IE, my startup page is Google. That loads up fine and works fine also. But when I go to the two websites that I really need to browse, Yahoo! Mail and my school website, it will always give me a "Cannot find page" type error. It's immediate, it doesn't even try to load the site. The school one is wierd because it will not load the site at all. The Yahoo one is a little different, it loads the page where you enter your username and password, but as soon as I do, it goes to the error page. Every other site seems to work fine, I can listen to my Yahoo radio station and everything. Is this maybe a security setting? Windows firewall is off and nothing was changed on IE before this happened, I booted up my computer one day and it ended up like this.

edit: Oh, and I haven't tried installing Firefox, but I think it'd be wierd if that was the only work around to this.

Are those 2 sites SSL encrypted, denoted by the URL starting with "https"?

If you can browse regular http sites, but not view secured https sites, follow this procedure and report back.
