Spyware how do people get it...

I spend all day at my job fixing peoples computer most of the time infested with insane ammounts of spyware. Now these people claim they never download any files, and never click on any activex control prompts, yet when I run ad-aware i get a result well over 2000. Anyhow I have never had any spyware on my system besides way back in the day when it was barely even defined as that, which was bundled with kazaa 1.6

I went surfing to some of the biggest spyware providing websites using IE6 instead of my prefered Firefox browser, still came up with no problems, not even an activex control prompt. Does anyone know of a site that actually manages to automatically install spyware, or even one that does it using activex, what I can only see right now is that people either don't know what it is to download or run a file, or they lie or something.

Hahah that's right i'm trying to infect myself with spyware (or viruses for that matter) on a spare comp, without downloading an EXE and running it and without clicking yes please rape me on an activex control prompt.

Any ideas?

You've also most likely got a fully patched operating system.

All it takes is a simple click on a google search result, to a bad website, and the computer is loaded with a half-dozen malware apps.

1. Their user account has administrative privileges.
2. They download all kinds of "harmless" software like toolbars, WeatherBug, instant messaging clients and other software that silently installs spyware.
3. They're using a version of IE that is less than 6.0 for XP SP2.
4. Their user account has administrative privileges.

actually the worst case I had was with a car dealership where some dumbass kept going to a horoscope website. it installed some spyware that had a specific problem with their specific Dell models bios.
I was out there 3 times in 1 week, finally the owner threatened to fire anyone who wnet to any non-work sites 🙂

I have administrative privileges on my account(some games hate limited accounts), although i also am updated, but if we install all the updates on a clean install of windows, they still come back infected are they to blame or is there honestly stuff out there that still takes advantage of IE (besides activex where they have to click yes i want to hand over my soul).

In my noob days, I used a "smiley" site to put cool "smilies" in forums. INFESTED. It didn't take much.

XPSP2 + Firefox FTW.

Yeah isn't that an exe download or a activex control though?
