Anyone heard of E2give spyware?

Adaware picked it up but wouldn't really get rid of it. Heck a couple of times when ad aware ran I right clicked the files to select all and all of a sudden it took and listed all the files associated with it into the ignore list. I downloaded the microsoft spyware checker that was in the hot deals forum earlier this week and it found it and seemed to get rid of it handily. I ran it on all of the users and thought the machine was clean and a couple of days later it is back. This SOB really slows the computer down and is really aggravating the crap out of me.

I am wondering if this thing may be creeping in by way of AOL instant messenger.

Anyone seen this before? Have any suggestions?

Thanks I will give those links a look. Like I said ad aware would pick it up but one of 2 thing usually happened. One it would move the files to the ignore list or 2 it would pop a box that said that it couldn't remove all the files and asked if I wanted to run again on reboot. Then when it poped the box I just mentioned it would take down explorer. I mean the start bar would disappear and a minute or so later it would come back up. Then when I did the reboot ad aware would never run.

Spybot never did find it. One thing about it it is relentless. I would like to choke the person who created it. But that is another story. ;)

I suggest this:

1) download and install a 15-day trial of Norton Antivirus 2005 from here

2) go through all of Norton Antivirus's options and set it up with the principles I mentioned down the page a screen here under the Ongoing prevention section. You definitely want Heuristics maxed and scanning inside compressed files.

3) go to Control Panel and re-enable the Windows Firewall since Norton 2005 wants to take over that duty (which I don't agree with that)

4) Disable System Restore so the junk can't hide there and then come back out later

5) Get your Microsoft Antispyware updated

6) Get today's Norton Intelligent Updater from here for the very latest antivirus definitions

7) Reboot into Safe Mode and do exhaustive antivirus and antispyware scans

8) Reboot into normal mode and see if you're free of that junk.

I also suggest a Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer scan: MBSA And anymore, it would be good to get your family members to all use Limited accounts for routine computer usage, since a Limited account is caged from messing with the important parts of the Registry, from installing software, and from tampering with the Windows directory. And the cage will hold a lot of the malware that might try to use the person's account beneath the surface, too.
