folks,

i have the following two files (amoung other crap) in the root directory of my c: drive:

kyf.dat
fiz0

i know what all the other files are but i don't recognize these two! a quick google search suggests that they are from a spyware program called whazit, but all of the references are ~1 year old AND state that the files are found in c:\windows, not c:\. neither adaware or spybot s&d detect these files as being malicious.

so, my question is, what the heck are they? is my pc infected with something? if so, what is it and how come the spyware proggies don't seem to be detecting it?

i know i can always just delete 'em and see what happens but that makes me nervous, even if i can restore from the recycle bin.

any thoughts much appreciated.

also, i noticed that a program called viewpoint manager showed up on my machine. this was also undetected by adaware or spybot; from what i found on google it seems harmless & i believe the uninstall removed it but i would still like to know where it came from. has anybody else seen this proggy, and if so, do you know how it gets in? it seems like it must have piggybacked on something else cause i sure don't remember installing it!

thanks in advance,

joe

it's possible that those files aren't the offending spyware files themselves but were perhaps dropped by the spyware (why - i don't know).
