Yes, my opinion it is.
Because the best realtime protection of known spyware is keeping your OS and all your applications up to date on patches, and utilizing the limited user privileges account for web surfing.
A realtime scanner isn't going to catch anything zero-day so it won't matter anyway.

Could the same be said of virus/trojans/worms? Real-time protection is overrated if you to operate as a user, keep systems/apps up to date?
