is this a good calibration tool or is there anything a little better for the $100-125 range? im just planning on using it to set up a gaming LCD.
 
Unless you're buying an IPS (or VA) panel, then I wouldn't bother. You can tweak any TN panel just fine using online calibration images/instructions.

Here's an old post of mine on how to do it in 10 minutes.
