Spy Shots: ?05 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab

Eh, still a Toyota. As far as I'm concerned a domestic truck will always only be a real truck, no foreign crap.

The new '05 Frontiers and '05 Tacomas bitch slap the puny Rangers and Colorados. Anyone that says the domestics make better compact pickups is smoking crack.

Opps, thought this was full size😛

Shows you how much I care about foreign trucks.

Edit: Crack + Colorados =

The new Tacoma measures in with a five-inch-longer wheelbase, and it's almost four inches wider than today's Tacoma.
so they're just using the current tundra?

I "think" the new Tacoma is using the new 4-Runner's chassis. There's no way that's it's using the Tundra's relatively "old" bones.

that was more a comment on the size, or lack of it, of the current tundra than anything else 😛

really it looks like they're taking the 'compact' out of the compact pickup

I don't know about the Taco, but VQ40DE is sweet 😉
They should put it into the Z, make it a Z400 🙂

Appears to be lots of styling cues from the current 4runner, which isnt a bad thing.

Lets hope Toyota can resist the urge to put the 4runner hoodscoop on there.

I don't know if I totally love the look of this...but it might grow on me.

I am sure this will be a great truck. The current Tacoma is a great truck...but definitely showing its age. It's interior size and quality along with its poor ride quality need an upgrade.

What are the engine choices? Honestly I think GM is on to something with offering the new I5 in the Colorados and Canyons. I think they are going to have to come out with an I6 or V6 to compete with the V8s in the Dodge Dakotas and what not, but a lot of people buying a compact/midsize truck want decent gas mileage out of a relatively powerful engine. Providing 220HP-225ft/lbs in an engine that provides 22-26MPG highway (depending on setup) is quite nice. It shouldn't be the only top of the line engine like it is now, but having it as an option is great and I think it would sell to the majority of buyers. If GM just comes out with the I6 for those people with a need for the extra power, it will be hard to beat them in terms of choices.

Now if Toyota is able to come out with a quality I6/V6 that puts out better numbers on similar gas mileage...they will really have a slam dunk.
