Spurrier Now Confirms He's Leaving Redskins

from the washington post article link above (couple messages up):
Spurrier said his understanding was that Sexton had authorized the Redskins to make the announcement without telling him. Spurrier had only hired Sexton on Monday.

But then from Redskins.com (the official website for the team)
Shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Redskins head coach Steve Spurrier called team owner Daniel M. Snyder to resign

So did he (Spurrier) call or not??? Someone's still lying.

So did he really quit??

now the reports say that he never said he was going to resign, and then you've got Snyder saying he regrets seeing him go, wow, this just got fililed with drama quickly

It's confirmed, he quit, his agent quit for him basically, and Spurrier couldnt reach his agent or something. Good riddance I say.

Coach Steve Spurrier and the Washington Redskins worked out the final details of his resignation this afternoon -- after a few hours of confusion in which Spurrier was unaware that he had quit his own job.

Go read the Washington Post (link ^^^^^^^^)

Which translates to Snyder telling him that he can quit and save face or he will fire him and make Spurrier seem like an incompetent has-been. Spurrier promptly resigns. Snyder puts on his sad face for the interviews. Snyder then goes out and gets drunk in celebration afterwards.

Doh, but he wouldn't have gotten an extension next year. Snyder seems fairly impatient.

I also bet Synder was making his life miserable. Why else would someone turn down 15 million for working next season?

For 15 million I'd put up with a lot of crap.

That was 15 million for the next 3 years - only $5 million for each year.

I'm not so sure Snyder went out and got drunk. After all, this is the 5th coach since Snyder purchased the team in '99. At some point, Snyder just has to admit that he's not just an owner, but an ass****, too. I'd hate to work for the guy. Very, very fixated on winning. I'll bet we go through with this same scenaro with the next coach ... and the coach after that ... and the next one ... and then Snyder will get frustrated and sell the team off because he's a financial wiz, but can't find the right buttons to push with the team to make them a winning team.

spurrier gave up. he's a quitter. guess fun n' gun just doesn't work against pros the same way it works against the kentuckys, alabamas, and georgias.
