Actually, Sprints SMS works rather well. Its push to talk and it rocks.

Where did you get your information?

LAS VEGAS - Sprint PCS launched a new service in the U.S. Monday that lets customers talk on their phones as if they were walkie-talkies, taking on established leader Nextel Communications Inc. in the market for "push to talk" services.

sorry I wasn't aware that they rolled out a new service a week ago... at any rate SMS is still crappy. The messaging server is down half the time, and the other half it takes 5 minutes for it to respond.

I came to P00P on this thread.

Sprint is the suck. I've been with them since 1998 and they show me no love. Now that I can take my number with me I will be switching once my latest contract expires in January. Problem is, I want T-Mobile but T-Mobile is not available in North Carolina (WTF?)

Are you in one of the 100 markets allowing the transfer of numbers?

Yep, Charlotte is one of those markets. Not only can we switch mobile-to-mobile, but we can also do mobile-to-home or home-to-mobile!

sprints text messagin sucks. You can't send a text message without going on the internet. I have a vision phone and used to pay $10 for unlimited vision thats surfing the net, text messaging etc. The problem with sprint is that u can't simply send a message to some one by simply typing and sending, for that you have get onto your mail account and then send messages to a number or a mail account. So any time you send a message you pay for vision useage thats pretty high incase you don't have unlimited vision. Well they increased their price to $15 for vision and hence I am getting rid of it because its no use. Now for those of you switching over to sprint.. I have it for the last year or so .. its been great in Texas but the problem starts when I go back to LA or am travelling. It has week signals in LA. It was great in San Fran. though.
