Sprint DSL blows.

The modem keeps giving me a fake IP address. I dunno why but even when my computer is hooked up directly to the modem it's convinced the IP is 192.168.1.2. Not only that but it appears I'm behind a firewall, even when i'm connected directly to the modem. WTF is going on? I can't use bittorant or anything. :|

god damnit! I just typed in 192.168.1.1 and it's asking me for a password. apparently the modem is a router. wtf

maybe your computer needs more cowbell...

shawn, what kind of modem? Most dsl modems will ask for a password when trying to reach 192.168.1.1 cause thats where you would configure the modem.
I know the default for my sprint modem is admin/admin so try that.

it's a ZyXEL 645M-A1. apparently I have to use telnet to access the settings. unfortunately i'm unable to figure out how to disable the firewall.
