Sprint and Verizon to Sell Unlocked iPhones

I posed a question about how truly worldly the iPhone 4S is when the carriers place so many restrictions. Just found my answer today.

Sprint and Verizon will have unlocked phones (a few additional hoops with Verizon). This is making me reconsider renewing my AT&T contract in favor of the other two. Customers are already locked in a 2-year contract, so it's really not worth upsetting and risk losing customers in exchange for higher prices on their 2-week vacation out of country.

I find this to be a major factor for those traveling overseas. It really is a hassle to carry your iPhone 4S to go online an additional phone to make/receive calls in foreign country.

AT&T does away with unlimited data, now forces customers to choose expensive unlimited text plans or none at all, and still locks their phone. The company really needs to change their gouging strategies if they want to stay competitive.
