There are two competing formats used for the "4G" standard, WiMax and LTE (Long Term Evolution).
WiMax is already available in select markets like Baltimore. LTE is going to be rolled out in 2010 (late 2010) by Verizon first.
WiMax is supported by Sprint/Clearwire. LTE is backed by TMO, VZW, and AT&T. (in US markets)
