His remarks, delivered to an audience abroad, stood out at a time when other superstar artists have seemed to mute their criticism of the president.

Article at New York Times, paywall penetrating for 14 days, i.e. until May 29, 2025

At concert in England he excoriates treasonous Trump & administration, citing their sins while other American artists waffle and wonder how to adjust to what's going on. Not Bruce. He does have faith (as do I) that America has what it takes to withstand this. I wish I were confident.

Said Bruce:

“The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call upon the righteous power of art, of music, of rock ’n’ roll, in dangerous times,” he said. “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.”

"Bruce Springsteen opened his “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour in Manchester, England, on Wednesday with a forceful denunciation of President Trump, accusing him and his administration of trampling on civil rights and workers, abandoning allies and siding with dictators.

Even for an avowed liberal like Mr. Springsteen, it was a notably piercing broadside at a time when some artists have seemed to avoid directly confronting Mr. Trump as they did in 2017, after he took office the first time. Back then, many prominent performers and celebrities roundly denounced Mr. Trump at shows and rallies and on television.

Appearing in Manchester, Mr. Springsteen, 75, criticized Mr. Trump in separate remarks before his songs “Land of Hope and Dreams,” “House of a Thousand Guitars” and “My City of Ruins.” He later posted a transcript of his comments on his website and a video of them on his YouTube channel."

Well it's a good thing he didn't say 8647.

That could get you investigated. James Coney took his post down and the puppy killer herself is investigating.

"Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whose agency oversees the Secret Service, said on X that DHS and Secret Service were "investigating this threat and will respond appropriately."

Fucking snowflake mofos. Getting 86'd is an ancient term for getting someone tossed out of a bar. Or just getting rid of of them. It's never been associated with assassination.

Right out of the 1960's hippy movement. I read that and was flooded with memories.

Did you also remember how everything you once stood for was thrown out the window to become the person you are today?

Nope. I'm the same fellow I've always been. I always thought the hippy movement was just a reason to use drugs and get laid without any commitment, and by golly I was right. My debauchery was all just past the end of the movement which worked out well because the girls were still into the peace love dope thing, but didn't have hairy legs. A young man needs to have standards.

There was an unjustifiable war being waged by your country and a draft (which your idea of a president evaded with a bogus claim), you forget that and instead think yourself superior to those you disparage. Your smug commitment stinks. I guess you were debauched as you say. Did you ever have a conscience? You may have had standards but didn't have principles.

Trump did not write that, it was written by some flunky who listened to bristling asshole Donald Trump who has the temperament of an obnoxious angry high school "student" at best and is the most dangerous fool this country has ever spawned.

Did you serve, or look for a way out?
Don't preach at me about commitment when the only thing you've ever committed to was a cushy job and paying lip service to a movement as long as it cost's you nothing and has no risk.

I served and I largely share his critique of conservatives. While I have plenty of issues with them they in large part stem from a single cause, and that cause is conservatives lack principles.

Your ideology had a challenge placed in front of it where they could choose their self-professed principles and lose an election or cast them away. They failed that challenge and chose the latter, you along with them.

I don't think they lack them. What they have is many that liberals are not very interested in like blind respect for authority. The problem, using respect as a single example of a bunch of others, is the blindness not the respect part. Human adaptation for successful survival rates is owed in no small part to the development of brain power and language, the capacity to transmit vital information to the next generation without taking a million years for it to root itself genetically like it did for the brain power and language ability. Once you codify that respect must be given to older individuals because of their greater life experience you open the door to enforcing that attitude universally to allow respecting old fools. This is why we have Trump. The principles are fine, that application was wrongly inculcated by fear of being put down. Personally, I feel it confuses the matter to call conservatives unprincipled. They have good principles but hideous application as I see it.

Trump will probably revoke Springsteen's passport and deport him from the state of NJ. Love the way he says "Never liked him, never liked his music" after using his music (without permission) for several election events.
Personally I think he just likes being an asshole and won't do much of anything other than insult unless there's a buck to be made. I could be wrong. I guess we will see.

I completely disagree. The idea that the people who claim to support law and order support a felon rapist because he’s old is nonsense.

The principle they adhere to is that of expedience. They have no actual moral or principled compass.

There are probably multiple people in a Salvadoran gulag who thought the same thing.

i was referring only to Springsteen who, like Trump, has a huge fan base and the imagined threat that poses to his childish ego. With immigrants it's about stoking hatred with his family of bigots to maintain his popularity. The payoffs are very different with far more benefit to him with the latter.
