Spring is in the air: First day at the drag strip

T2T III

Lifer
Here in Virginia, it was opening day at a local drag strip. Drag bikes, street trucks, rail dragsters, Civics and other goodies were there at the strip. Some observations / moments:

-> Fastest time that I saw: 4.58 which was done by a rail dragster
-> A Chevrolet Vega wagon lost its hood at the finish line when it turned a time of 6.50 seconds (Oh, oh - someone forgot to put all of the hood pins in place :Q :Q )
-> Civics were going down the track at at 10 - 11 seconds. One performed the feat in under 10 seconds.
-> A few late 60s - early 70s Camaros
-> The drag bikes were pretty impressive. I don't recall some of the times being turned as I was more interested in watching them keep the bikes stabilized as their front wheel was off the ground for the first 1/4 lenght of the track. :Q
-> A Ford F-350 Quad cab w/dual wheels was performing in the low 10s. :Q <--- beating some of the times placed by the Civics. You know things are bad when you get beat by a Quad cab truck with duals on the back.

Over all, it was an enjoyable time. I'm looking forward to the other races coming up this season.

The track that I went to was at Old Dominion speedway in Manassas, VA.

i'll be there in the summer (at the old dominion speedway in manassas) when i get out of school. wont be running anything close to 10's though. I'm shooting for mid 14's. 🙂

Let me know when you'll be racing. I want to get over to the pit side with my digital camera for some better shots of the vehicles.

Sounds like fun was had by all. Nothing like the strip! 😉
Yeah, my 9-year-old daughter also enjoyed the races. I was explaining all the different compnents to her: superchargers, air intakes, wheelie bars, etc. She also likes to watch the Nascar races at the same track. How's that for culture?

The strip was open today but I was working on my motor mounts because it's been the second warm day in ages. 1st warm day, I washed the filthy car... I'm jealous.
